Ubuntu — A Meaningful Lifestyle
African philosophy to create a better life
Take a moment to think about your life so far. These days our lives have been consumed with meaningless social media interactions and our happiness is about likes and shares from strangers all over the world, yet we feel lonelier than ever.
Recently I came across the South African philosophy, Ubuntu, which teaches that all humans are deeply interconnected. By practicing Ubuntu, we can fill our lives with meaning as we engage with our profound humanity. The core principle behind Ubuntu is embracing humanity, so most of its practices focus on how to find your lost humanity.
Humanity’s Inter-connectedness
Ubuntu asks us to acknowledge the humanity in others. Our perspective will change when we see what people are bringing into our lives. It’s impossible to mistreat them when you know their inherent value.
It is quite the opposite of the modern way of thinking that pits us in comparisons against each other. Whether it’s a courier boy or your loved ones, when we recognize their inherent value, we are no longer bound to notions like lack and competition.
